Note From Executive Secretary
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to those of you that may not know me. My name is Reginald Hinton and I was elected this year as the organization's Executive Secretary after the passing of our former Executive Secretary, Mable Hopkin Slade. I have and will likely continue serving as the organization's auditor. I ask for your patience while I  familiarize with how to update content on this website. I hope to eventually be able to make some improvements that will make this website more interesting and interactive.
The WCTS-NWHS Alumni & Friends Association, Inc., has begun planning for its Summer Enrichment Program 2016.  This program originated in 2006 and has been serving an average of 35 to 60 students in Grades K-6 each year since.  This year we are planning a three-week summer program which will begin on Monday, June 27, 2016 and end on Friday July 15, 2016.
The goal of the Summer Enrichment Program is to stem summer learning loss and accelerate academic year learning with hands-on-activities in reading/writing, mathematics, technology, healthy living, logical thinking, and character development skills. Guest speakers and educational field trips are an integral part of the program.  Every attempt is made to incorporate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) content into the curriculum.  Our students need a strong foundation in the natural sciences to be competitive in the job market.  This is the area of the job market that is growing and is projected to grow over the next decade.
The summer program day begins with breakfast at 9:00AM, and ends after lunch at 1:00PM in between we provide a challenging learning environment. There is a designated teacher for each grade group (K-2, 3-4, and 5-6) and volunteers to assist the teachers.  We need and welcome volunteers for this summer's program.  You may want to share an art or craft, a life experience, a bit of history, or a favorite story that will benefit the students.  Please contact Ben Stewart 919-782-6692 or Carrie H. Hill 919-544-3262.
